Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born in Lynn located in Massachusetts. Her parents were Lithuanian Jews Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. When her father passed away as a carnival barker, when Ruth was just a young girl She was required to keep the family going by working as a cleaner and a server. Ruth was raised in a tenement community that was poor in Boston, Massachusetts, where she went to school. She only attended school for a couple of years, then leaving to pursue her acting career. It was a difficult path to take. Although she got an interview as a hat check girl in New York posing as a writer for a mystery publication but no theater jobs was offered. While in New York, she volunteered at a bar as a check-in girl before quitting after a few months and moving to Boston. She worked as an usherette during the early morning hours and also appeared at the New England Repertory Company by the evening. This was her first permanent acting gig. She has also been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she specialized in drama.
